"Unpacking Classics with Professor Laist" Hits the Airwaves

You know the feeling.

You flip through channels, feeling like your brain is getting sucked out through your eyeballs.

Was it FCC Chairman Newton N. Minnow who called television a “vast wasteland”?  Or was it T.S. Eliot?

Either way, they were right.

Until now.

Folks tuning in to Wallingford Public Access television recently might have stumbled across a new presence on the airwaves, a beacon of enlightenment, wisdom, and culture. 

It must be Unpacking Classics with Professor Laist!

Professor Laist is a professor of English and Director of the Division of Arts and Humanities at the University of Bridgeport.  Crafting creative, thoughtful, and informative video lectures has been part of Dr. Laist’s teaching practice for many years.  Professor Laist’s videos condense crucial educational content into snackable chunks. 

Dr. Laist recently embarked on producing a series of videos dedicated to early British literature, and this series of videos has been incorporated into the programming schedule of Wallingford Public Access TV.  

WPAA-TV is a Connecticut treasure, a fiercely independent local media resource dedicated to creativity, diversity, and free speech.        

Now, they also educate channel-surfing Wallingfordians, as well as a global internet audience, about early British literature: the fantastical fights against monsters in Beowulf, the existential dread encountered by the title character in the medieval morality play Everyman, the life-affirming humanism of The Canterbury Tales, and the quirky and beautiful plaintiveness of Middle English lyrics. 

So don’t give in to the urge to smash your TV with a sledgehammer.  Tune in and turn on.  Unpacking Classics with Professor Laist will inspire you to unpack your couch potato supply kit.  Put on your sweats.  Pop some popcorn.  Diaper up.  Don’t touch that dial.
